Flirting with Flash - Off Camera Flash Exposure Guide

Many people when starting out photographing with Speedlites and Off Camera Flash struggle with setting the correct* exposure. I've created a table which may be used as a starting point when working with manual Off camera Flash.

Right click on the image to download - save to your smart phone for easy reference.

Manual OCF has the advantage that once set, the exposure remains constant and does not change even when local lighting changes or the tonal values in the image change, providing the flash to subject distance remains constant.
* Correct exposure is that which gives you the look you want, not what the camera meter shows!

That's it for now and don't forget if you really enjoy lighting to visit and join The LIGHT Side - a place to learn, be mentored, nurtured and learn about lighting, lighting and photography, whatever your level or experience.
